This is but a blip on the radar screen. The real reason the US dollar is going down is the US spending like drunken sailors and them printing money like its going out of style. They are even buying their own debt with it. CBO estimates have them adding 7-9 trillion to the debt in the next 5 years alone. The people are a very small part of it. Its the governments doing it and it goes all the way back to Hoover. Bush did it. Obama's just doing it faster.

And I haven't even mentioned the other 2 sets of books they keep to hide just how big the deficits really are. They keep a seperate set of books for the wars in the middle east and another for the trio of Social Security/Medicare ACBD/Medicaid. All the money that people pay into those systems has been spent.

Someone told me the Canadian dollar is rising. Not true. Compared to other world currencies it is about where it has been for the last 5 years. The US dollar is losing its value.

Unless the US government stops spending this will continue. It is the finances of the US that has precipitated moves like this.

For the fiscal year ending October 2009 the deficit was 1.4 trillion. Revenue was only 2.1 trillion and total spending was 3.5 trillion. How long can ANY country continue to spend 66% more than they take in in revenue? It can't last. This is why the tea party people are rising up. These things are common sense. Yet their government keeps handing money out like candy to whatever special interest group comes asking. I am not laying blame on anyone specifically because the practice has been in force for nearly 100 years.

While this is significant, what it really represents is just one small symptom of a much much bigger problem that has been festering for decades. It is just further proof of just how shaky the US finances really are. What they will spend on a war is peanuts compared to what a worldwide de-pegging from the US dollar would cost. They figured, wrongly, that they could stop the practice with a war.
